1:08Now PlayingAfter a crushing defeat in the World Cup game against France, Paraguayan soccer fans celebrated the San Juan Ara Festival on July 4th, only hours after being knocked out of the tournament.
According to Steven Pigelow, who filmed the scene, the festival traditionally involves burning of an "unpopular figure." So, for this year, the crowd decided to light up an effigy of France's star player Kylian Mbappe.
This moment comes after Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla faced intense backlash from FIFA and the world soccer community for "racist" comments made about Mbappe. Since making the comments, Amarilla has been condemned by her fellow Paraguayan government and France's Football Federation announced it plans to sue the politician.
