1:22Now PlayingA lightning strike during a soccer match in southern Thailand killed a 24-year-old player and injured 12 others on August 4. The bolt hit the rain-soaked pitch at Santiphap Stadium in Narathiwat province during the Golok Cup regional tournament, striking Safwan Awae, who was later pronounced dead after being taken to hospital. Teammates and medics rushed to help as several players suffered burns and injuries. The match was postponed following the tragedy, which occurred during Southeast Asia’s annual monsoon season, known for frequent storms and heavy rainfall.
