2:03Now PlayingRussia released former U.S. Marine Robert Gilman on August 11 after he spent more than four years imprisoned in the country. President Donald Trump said the release followed discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and was granted on humanitarian grounds, with no prisoner exchange involved. U.S. officials had pressed for Gilman’s release amid concerns about his health and need for medical treatment. Gilman was arrested in Voronezh in 2022 and sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison after being accused of kicking a police officer while intoxicated.
