The tradition culminates in a freshman "Dixie cup" hat being replaced with an upperclassman’s "combination cap", marking their official passage from first-year plebes to fourth-class midshipmen; which was completed by midshipman Lincoln Hedberg - the son of New Jersey governor Mikie Sherrill (a 1994 Academy graduate). The 2029 graduation class completed the climb in 2 hours and 17 minutes.
