Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader Gagik Tsarukyan signed a memorandum on holding snap parliamentary elections in Armenia in December 2018.
The memorandum consists of four points with the first one registering that the parties agree over conduction of snap parliamentary elections in December 2018. With the second point Tsarukyan faction, as a force supporting the revolution, is obliged not to nominate candidate and not to support any other candidate in case of Pashinyan’s resignation.
On the same day Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan met with the representatives of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun. However, when talking to reporters ARF member Arsen Hambartsumyan did not say whether the agreement on early parliamentary elections will be reached.
14 DEPUTIES ISSUE STATEMENT
Fourteen deputies from the Armenian parliament have signed a statement with respect to holding a snap parliamentary election.
“We support Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s position of holding snap parliamentary elections in December 2018,” the statement reads. “After N. Pashinyan’s resignation from the post of Prime Minister until the snap NA elections, a new prime minister should not be elected and the current parliament should be dissolved.”
BUSINESSMAN CHARGED
Charges on have been brought today against businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan, his attorney said.
Mayrapetyan is accused of assistance to bribe, but he is not accepting the charges.
Mayrapetyan’s attorney informed that the investigator has filed a petition with the court that the tycoon be remanded in custody. The court will consider this petition.
US OFFICIAL TO VISIT ARMENIA
The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent will visit Armenia this month to build on the US strong ties with Armenia, the U.S. embassy in Yerevan said.
He will discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral importance with representatives of the Armenian government, civil society, and business community.
ROMANIA RATIFIES ARMENIA-EU DEAL
The Romanian parliament on Monday completed the ratification process of the Armenia-European Union (EU) Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, said Armenian Ambassador to Romania Sergey Minasyan.
The Romanian Senate has unanimously passed the bill on the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia as well as the EU, European Atomic Energy Community, and their member countries.
