Armenia’s former defense minister Seyran Ohanyan has been charged with overthrowing constitutional order in the country in line with the March 1 case.

Ohanyan was the chief of staff of the Armenian armed forces during March 1, 2008 events.

However, Ohanyan said he does not accept the charges and believes them to be unfounded.

Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan, former defense minister Michael Harutyunyan, former secretary of National Security Council Armen Gevorgyan and former secretary general of CSTO Yuri Khachaturov face the same charges.

My Step alliance members Alen Simonyan and Lena Nazaryan as well as Prosperous Armenia member Vahe Enfiyajyan have been elected vice speakers of the Armenian parliament.

Another candidate from the opposition Mane Tandilyan got 19 votes.

Newly appointed Armenian Ambassador Varuzhan Nersesyan presented his credentials to US President Donald Trump.

At their brief talk during the ceremony of handing credentials, President Trump and Ambassador Nersesyan underscored the steps toward expanding bilateral relations.

Also, they stressed the American Armenian community’s part in the development of friendship between the two countries.

Georgian PM Mamuka Bakhtadze, Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko, Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani and Sweden PM Stefan Löfven congratulated PM Nikol Pashinyan on his election.

This is the first Lukashenko’s message of congratulations that follows Armenia’s parliamentary elections and comes after some critical remarks exchanged between him and Pashinyan in the end of 2018.

“I am confident the cooperation between Belarus and Armenia will develop in various spheres and will foster the friendship between our peoples,” he said.

Hassan Rouhani in turn said he hopes that there will be opportunities for further expansion and deepening of bilateral, regional and international relations between two countries.

A 62-year-old man died in Yerevan after complications caused by А H1N1 virus, or swine flu.

The man was in critical condition because of pulmonary failure, but his tests showed that he had H1N1 virus. The first victim of the virus was a 55-year-old Armenia woman who died on December 29.
