ARMENIAN PM TO LEAVE FOR IRAN

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will pay a two-day official visit to Iran with his wife, Anna Hakobyan. The PM is scheduled to meet with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and IRI Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The prime minister will also visit Tehran Ararat Sports and Cultural Center and will leave for Isfahan to meet the governor and representatives of the Armenian community.

Armenia will purchase offensive weapons, said Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan.

The Defense Minister noted that the weapons purchased by the Armenian side can neutralize the aggressive encroachments of the enemy.

Tonoyan also touched upon the issue of US position on Armenia sending mission to Syria.

According to him, sending a mission to Syria is a humanitarian action, and it’s legitimate.

“One country reacts positively, another country—not positively, or states that it doesn’t support our actions. It’s a matter of time, everything will be settled; our action in Syria is solely humanitarian,” he added.

FRANCE NATIONAL MUGGED IN YEREVAN

A masked mugging with the use of a gun-like object was committed on February 23 in Yerevan.

A resident of Ararat province, French national, has come to a Yerevan police station as the day before two masked persons had stolen a large amount of money from her in Yerevan under gunpoint, and then fled the scene.

Subsequently, police officers detained Georgian citizens in Yerevan.

HOUSE OF RETIRED GENERAL MANVEL GRIGORYAN’S SON ROBBED

The house of the son of Armenian ex-MP, retired General Manvel Grigoryan, Karen Grigoryan, has been robbed.

A resident of Etchmiadzin Hripsime Hakobyan turned to police and said  she arrived at a house on February 23 and found that the grating on the first floor window was broken.

Unknown persons or a person stole expensive things, paintings, a pistol, documents, her husband Karen Grigoryan’s clothes. A criminal case was initiated into the theft on a particularly large scale.

ŚWITALSKI: ARMENIA-EU RELATIONS DEVELOP CONSTRUCTIVELY

Armenia and the European Union have begun the year on a high political note, said EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Świtalski.

According to him, EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn’s recent visit to Armenia has been very successful, and Armenia-EU bilateral relations are developing very constructively. The EU diplomat noted that in 2018, the amount of support has increased from 20 percent up to 25 percent.

The EU ambassador touched upon the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and recalled that the mediators visited the region.

According to him, there are several positive elements in different directions as they have seen “an unprecedented low level of casualties.”

The EU will be ready to contribute to the rehabilitation of the region when the peace comes, the envoy added.
