GEORGIA PRESIDENT VISITS ARMENIA
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has arrived in Armenia on a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Armen Sarkissian.
The delegation led by Zurabishbilu visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in capital city Yerevan, to pay tribute to the victims of this tragedy.
Karabakh conflict should not be shifted to the Georgian territory and the Armenians and Azerbaijanis should live in peace there, Zurabishvili said during a statement for the media after meeting with her Armenian counterpart Armen Sarkissian.
There are many challenges in the region and it is necessary to remember that the main way is the peaceful resolution of conflicts on the basis of the norms of international law, she said adding that all conflicts should be resolved via dialogue and talks.
ARMENIAN SOLDIER DIES IN TRAGIC INCIDENT
Ministry of Defense military unit detachment health instructor and compulsory military serviceman Private Hamlet Avagyan died Tuesday as a result of slipping into the gorge.
“The military serviceman slipped and fell into the gorge on the way from a military base to another military base to provide medical assistance,” spokesperson for Armenia’s investigative committee said. “H. Avagyan died from the bodily injuries he sustained.”
Harutyunyan added that a report was being prepared on this incident.
OSCE CHAIRPERSON VISITS ARMENIA
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Miroslav Lajcak stands ready to make every effort toward settlement of the Karabakh conflict, he said during his visit to Yerevan
Lajcak said he was ready to do everything to be useful in seeking a resolution to the Karabakh conflict.
He recalled the three internationally recognized principles for conflict settlement—that is, territorial integrity, people’s right to self-determination, and non-use of force or threat thereof—and noted that these precepts are the “architecture” on which the conflict settlement should be built.
And speaking about the prospects for Artsakh’s participation in the negotiation process, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office stated that a change in the format of the negotiations should be acceptable for all parties.
RUSSIAN MFA WARNS ARMENIANS
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a warning for Russians planning to visit Azerbaijan who have indirect or direct signs of belonging to an Armenian nationality.
“Due to the fact that, despite the numerous appeals of the Russian side, the practice of banning Russian citizens with Armenian roots from entering the Republic of Azerbaijan continues,” the statement says.
It is noted that Azerbaijan's action “are motivated by the inability to ensure the personal security of such persons”.
YEREVAN IS 170TH
Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan is 170th in the Quality of Living city ranking,
according to Mercer global consulting firm.
The company has compared 231 cities in its Quality of Living Report for this year, and Vienna tops the list.
Yerevan is first among neighboring regional capitals.
