WHITE HOUSE DIRECTED BLOCK OF RESOLUTION
Sen. Lindsey Graham has blocked a Senate resolution that would have officially recognized the Armenian Genocide following a request from White House officials, he said in an interview with Axios on Saturday. Graham said he blocked the resolution because Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was in town to meet with President Trump at the time.
Asked whether he felt uncomfortable blocking the Armenian Genocide resolution, Graham replied: “Yeah. Because I like Bob [Menendez]. He's been working on this for years, but I did think with the president of Turkey in town that was probably more than the market would bear."
CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING
Nine members of a family were poisoned in Armenian Gegharkunik Province when the police officers found out that on November 22, these family members were poisoned by the carbon monoxide emitted from the natural gas stove in their kitchen.
Also, on November 22, another three children were poisoned by carbon monoxide in Yerevan. According to police, they had been transported to the hospital.
By the way, the similar tragic accident took place in Kotayk Province on November 16 when the grandmother and her 4 grandchildren also died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
3 ARMENIAN NATIONALS DETAINED IN GEORGIA
Three Armenian nationals were detained at the Kazbegi customs checkpoint on the Georgian-Russian border after a prohibited cargo was found in the bus.
According to Armenian embassy in Georgia, a bus bound for Armenia was stopped on the border because of a prohibited cargo. A preliminary investigation is underway, and the embassy will make an additional statement on further developments. All passengers are being questioned.
ARMENIANS RECEIVE RUSSIAN CITIZENSHIP
Seventeen thousand Armenian citizens received Russian passports in 2019, Izvestia reported.
Meanwhile, the absolute leader among those who received Russian citizenship were the Ukrainian citizens (146 thousand), while the overall number of foreign citizens who received Russian citizenship in 2019 increased by 1.5 times compared to the previous year.
FITCH UPGRADES ARMENIA RATING
Fitch Ratings has upgraded Armenia's Long-Term Foreign-Currency (LTFC) Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to 'BB-' from ‘B+'. The Outlook is Stable.
The upgrade of Armenia's IDRs reflects the following key rating drivers and their relative weights. Armenia's institutions have facilitated a peaceful and orderly political transition and could strengthen further through structural reforms.
253 TRAFFIC ACCIDENT FATALITIES
There are 253 fatalities due to traffic accidents as of October 1, which is 11 times more than last year, Sergey Ghahramanyan, a member of the Public Council under the Armenia Police Chief.
Ghahramanyan expressed concern that the number of cars in the capital is increasing day by day and as a result, there is such bad traffic situation.
According to him, there are about 400,000 vehicles in the capital, while only one new street has been built in Yerevan in recent days.
FFA NEW PRESIDENT?
FC Ararat Yerevan legendary football player Khoren Hovhannisyan has announced on TV that he will run for the post of President of the Football Federation of Armenia.
Hovhannisyan noted that he is concerned about the current state of Armenian football, and if the people want it, he will become the FFA President.
By the way, FFA President Artur Vanetsyan resigned from the post on November 21, and on December 23, the FFA Executive Committee will be dissolved, too, and the new FFA President and Executive Committee will be elected on the same day.
