Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 27.11.2019:

US EMBASSY IN ARMENIA

The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan has responded to the request to comment on the latest reports suggesting that the White House official asked Senator Lindsey Graham to block the Armenian Genocide resolution.

“The U.S. Embassy has seen the report you reference.  The resolution in question is part of an ongoing legislative process and we will refrain from comment at this time,” the Embassy said.

The embassy added that their position on the Armenian Genocide issue has not changed.

“The U.S. position on this issue has not changed, we mourn the 1.5 million Armenians deported and massacred at the end of the Ottoman Empire and commemorate those events annually so that we never forget this dark chapter in history.”

WASHINGTON DC ADOPTS RESOLUTION

Meanwhile, Washington DC has adopted a resolution that recognizes Armenian Genocide, ANCA reported.

Washington DC recognizes the Genocide and commemorates its 104th anniversary and it has joined 49 U.S. States and the U.S. House of Representatives in recognizing the genocide and calling for its inclusion in the DC school curriculum.

ARMENIA IN LEGATUM PROSPERITY INDEX

Armenia is ahead of all other post-Soviet states, with the exception of the Baltic States and Georgia, in the British analytical institute's 2019 Legatum Prosperity Index, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook.

"Armenia has been ranked 61st, improving its position by 27 points from last year," he added. “Of the countries in the region, Georgia is in the 53rd place, Russia 74, Turkey 91, Azerbaijan 92, Iran 119.

UN REPRESENTATIVE ON ARMENIA

Five hundred thousand people suffer from various forms of malnutrition, and this figure reaches 820 million people all over the world, said the representative of the UN World Food Program in Armenia Jelena Milosevic at the international conference on investment opportunities in food and entrepreneurship development.

According to her, this fact negatively affects the country's capabilities, since the full realization of human potential as an engine of the economy is impossible with limited access to food.

Milosevic noted that Armenia has the potential and natural resources not only to intensify the solution to the food problem, but also to become an engine for growth in this area.

FLIGHTS SUSPENDED

As of November 27, AtlasGlobal airline of Turkey has suspended its flights in all directions, Region Monitor reported.

AtlasGlobal also operates direct Istanbul-Yerevan-Istanbul flights twice a week.

According to a statement issued by the airline, flights are suspended due to economic instability and rising costs at the Istanbul airport.

The statement also said that the suspension was temporary and the flights would be resumed on December 21, and those who bought AtlasGlobal airline tickets for that period would be compensated.
