COVID-19 IN ARMENIA

As of Thursday morning, 263 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of cases has reached 41,495 in the country.

Also, three more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 836 cases.

Two more cases of coronavirus patients dying from other reasons were recorded in Armenia in the past one day, and the respective death toll in the country is 251 now.

A total of five people died in one day, and the respective death toll has reached 1,087.

The number of people recovered in one day is 250, the total number of people recovered so far is 35,476, and the number of people currently being treated is 5,756—a drop by 8 in one day.

A total of 1,993 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Armenia in one day, and 190,560 tests have been performed to date.

BIG PROTEST

Citizens of Jermuk and residents of the nearby villages arrived in Yerevan Thursday to protest against the Amulsar gold mine project.

At the same time, a group of environmentalists from Yerevan have gathered at Liberty Square and will soon join the citizens of Jermuk.

The environmentalists have drums and are holding posters calling on the Armenian government to repeal the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Amulsar gold mine and stating that they are the protectors of Armenian’s mountains and stones.

The protesters against the Amulsar gold mine project declared that they are laying the foundation for a long chain of peaceful disturbances.

The Armenian Environmental Front has declared that it will also join the protest in Yerevan.

DEPUTY CHIEF SACKED

By the decision of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Rafayel Avetisyan has been relieved of the post of Deputy Chairman of the Urban Development Committee of Armenia.

IRAN CITIZEN IN ARMENIA

There are new developments in the case of a young woman who was found strangled at the gorge near the TV tower in Yerevan on Monday.

Her identity has been determined, she is a resident of Yerevan, and 26 years old, shamshyan.com reported.

According to the preliminary conclusion of the forensic doctor, traces of violence were found on her body.

Iranian citizen Hamidreza Sadefarad, 32, is sought on suspicion of committing this murder.

He temporarily lived in Yerevan, but now has crossed the Armenian-Iranian border.

MP CALLED TO COMMITTEE

The Corruption Prevention Commission of Armenia has not yet completed its study into the incident related to Hayk Sargsyan, a member of the majority My Step faction of the National Assembly. The chairperson of the commission, Haykuhi Harutyunyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am, adding that there was respective information to be obtained, and that is why Sargsyan was called to the commission Wednesday to present clarifications.

We tried to get a comment from the MP, too, but we could not get in touch with him.

According to the information and video posted on Hraparak website on July 26, Hayk Sargsyan had organized a party at White Shorzha Beach on the shoes of Lake Sevan—and despite the coronavirus-related restrictions in Armenia. According to the website, this beach is either linked to Sargsyan or belongs to him.
