COVID-19 IN ARMENIA

Armenia confirms 197 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, and the total number of cases has reached 44,075 in the country.

Also, three more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 884 cases.

The total number of people who have recovered so far is 38,631, and the number of people currently being treated is 4,291.

A total of 209,389 tests have been performed to date.

COVID-19 IN ARTSAKH

The Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Ministry of Health informed that seven new cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Artsakh, Information Headquarters reported.

COVID-19 has so far been confirmed in 295 people in Artsakh, but 265 of them have already recovered from this disease.

At present, 28 patients receive coronavirus treatment, and 55 people are in isolation.

Also, 362 more COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Artsakh, and a total of 10,897 tests have been performed to date.

NEW DEPUTY CHIEF

By the decree of President Armen Sarkissian, Ara Fidanyan has been appointed Deputy Chief of Police of Armenia.

10 PEOPLE DIE

Eleven people have been hospitalized and 10 dead with signs of exogenous (methanol) poisoning, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia reported.

And the National Center for Crisis Management received information from a representative of the Ministry of Health that the cause of death of one of the 11 casualties was different.

KARABAKH CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY

Today, on September 2, 2020, Artsakh celebrates the 29th anniversary of the proclamation of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

On September 2, 1991, a joint session of the regional deputies and the Shahumyan regional council was held in Stepanakert, where the declaration of the NKR was adopted.

"We congratulate on the occasion of this historic day. Free Artsakh," said Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan.

Artsakh ex-president Robert Kocharyan, in turn, noted wished 'lasting peace, prosperity and new victories to native Artsakh.'

EX-MP CHARGED

Tigran Sahakyan, son of former deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia Galust Sahakyan, is charged with infliction of damage to property through deception or abuse of confidence and forgery of evidence by a person or his or her representative participating in a civil case. Sahakyan’s attorney Emin Khachatryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that his client has been interviewed twice and stated that he doesn’t accept the charge brought against him.

Asked if there is a testimony underlying the charge, Khachatryan said he has petitioned for a confrontation, but there is no progress.

EX-MP TO BE RELEASED

Former MP Vanik Asatryan will be released from custody, Asatryan's defender Emin Beglaryan told Armenian News - NEWS.am.

In particular, he noted that the court rejected the request of the investigator of the National Security Service to extend the arrest of Asatryan for another 2 months.

Vanik Asatryan was arrested for bribery in the 2017 elections.
