Armenian News - NEWS.am presents the daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 15.04.21:

SOLDIERS

Two soldiers are dead and four were injured after a car had hit soldiers in an Armenian village.

An investigation is underway.

Those injured have been hospitalized to undergo a medical examination.

SEARCHES

The search for the remains of servicemen killed during the hostilities and still considered missing is continuing in Artsakh [Karabakh] on Thursday.

After the war, a total of 1,542 remains have been retrieved, or transferred to the Armenian side, from the currently occupied territories of Artsakh.

PROTEST

A silent protest took place in front of the UN office in Yerevan.

These protesters demand the return of over 300 Armenian POWs and civilians who are held hostage in Azerbaijan after the recent Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war.

An earlier statement issued by the organizers of this protest said that thousands of human rights advocates will raise this issue on the same day also in Toronto, Montreal, Berlin, Warsaw, Rome, Los Angeles, New York, Geneva, Houston, and Paris—taking to the streets and demanding the return of Armenian POWs

The protesters will continue their demonstration in front of the Russian embassy in Yerevan, too.

LUKASHENKO

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had offered money for Karabakh if Armenia agreed to settle the conflict peacefully.

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko provided the details of Aliyev's statement during his visit to Baku, on Tuesday and Wednesday, where he held talks with Aliyev.

Thus Lukashenko noted that the former leadership of Armenia rejected the offer.

"This is the first time I talk about it today," he added.

OFFICIAL VISIT

At the invitation of Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian arrived in Georgia Thursday on an official visit, along with his wife Nouneh Sarkissian.

Sarkissian will have a private talk with Zourabichvili, which will be followed by an extended meeting.

During the visit, President Sarkissian is Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia and chairperson Archil Talakvadze of the Parliament of Georgia.

Also, Armen Sarkissian will visit the diocesan seat church of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.

COVID-19

Armenia faces the third - more deadly - wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

As of Thursday morning, 1,014 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 206,142 in the country.

Also, 23 more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 3,817 cases.

The number of people who have recovered over the past one day is 882, the total respective number so far is 185,125.
