AZERBAIJAN OPENS FIRE ON ARMENIA
The Ministry of Defense (MOD) of Azerbaijan has once again disseminated disinformation, stating that on Monday evening, the units of the Armenian Armed Forces opened fire toward the Azerbaijani positions located in the eastern part of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
But during the same period, it was actually the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces that opened fire—and with various, including large-caliber firearms—toward of the Armenian combat positions located in the western part of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, the MOD of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.
Meanwhile, deputy defense minister Arman Sargsyan did not wish to respond to the reporters' questions regarding the border situation, and urged them to follow the official news feed, rather than trying to get information from him in this regard.
"Our border has changed, it is not ruled that shoots will be heard in other places as well," he added.
ARMENIA,TURKEY MEETING
Turkey has proposed to hold another meeting to normalize relations with Armenia either in Ankara or Yerevan, a diplomatic source in Ankara told RIA Novosti.
"If we are talking about the process of normalization of relations between the two countries, it would be logical for the negotiations to be held without the participation of third countries, forces. We have proposed to hold the meeting in Ankara or Yerevan, but so far we have not received an answer," said the interlocutor of the aforesaid Russian news agency.
According to him, one of the obstacles to the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia is the pressure by the Armenian diaspora.
"In some cases, the process is being sabotaged. But we hope that the normalization process will continue," added the source.
INFLATION IN ARMENIA
Inflation is a global phenomenon and will continue until the end of the year and also in 2023, Narek Mkrtchyan, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, told reporters Tuesday.
"Our ministry does not have a mechanism for curbing inflation," he said.
The inflation rate in Armenia is now comparable with inflation rates around the world, added Vardan Aramyan, a former Finance Minister.
"Inflation has become today a headache for the whole world," Aramyan told 168.am.
According to him, the 12-month inflation rate in the US in May this year was 9.8%, up from the projected 2%.
US AMBASSADOR IN ARMENIA
President Joe Biden has submitted to the Senate the nomination of Kristina Kvien, the former US chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine, as the new US ambassador to Armenia.
The relevant Senate committee will set a hearing date for Kvien to answer questions from lawmakers.
And some time thereafter, the upper chamber of the US Congress will vote whether or not to confirm her nomination for the post of US ambassador to Armenia.
Lynne Tracy has been serving as the US ambassador to Armenia since February 19, 2019.
