"For weeks now we have been waiting on details of how exactly we'll achieve that commitment, and I think this program is a really important step forward," Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service Press Secretary Timothy Young said during an appearance on "NewsNation Prime."
"I think it's important we recognize the scale of this crisis with now more than 5 million Ukrainians who have fled their homeland. This should be, at the very least, the bare minimum of what we do. So we're very hopeful that this is a mechanism that can bring folks to safety and really reunite some families who've desperately been seeking to do just that."
