The Los Angeles police union is proposing the department increase the use of unarmed responders when it comes to non-emergency calls. Jeretta Sandoz, vice president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, said calls like abandoned vehicles, welfare checks and noise complaints could be handled without armed police, freeing those officers up for other calls.
