Long Island investigators had a description of a suspect vehicle — a Chevy Avalanche — in the Gilgo Beach murders in case files since 2010. However, no one tracked down the vehicle until a task force was created to solve the murders more than a decade later. Then, it only took detectives six weeks to identify the vehicle and suspect 59-year-old Rex Heuermann.

Suffolk County legislator and retired detective Robert Trotta joined "Elizabeth Vargas Reports" to discuss what he calls a "major mistake" that authorities made during the decadeslong investigations.
