Recovery efforts are underway in western North Carolina after Helene barreled through, destroying nearly everything in its wake. Despite overwhelming support from people from outside the area, hurricane relief volunteer Doug Kiesewetter said the locals impacted by the storm are the real heroes. "We (volunteers) are not the heroes; the people of Appalachia are coming together," he said.
