as posted by the channelDr. Norman Beatty, with the infectious diseases division at the University of Florida, says people who get into the waters left over from a hurricane are at risk of ingesting vibrio vulnificus, also known as flesh-eating bacteria. The easiest way for a bacterium to invade is through an open wound like a cut from something sharp, such as a nail hiding in the water. Beatty tells NewsNation’s “Banfield” that, after 2022’s Hurricane Ian, there were 38 confirmed cases of flesh-eating bacteria, and at least 11 fatalities.
