At issue: Whether public schools can require young children to read LGBTQ-inclusive books without offering parents the option to opt out. The case stems from Montgomery County, Maryland, where titles such as "Pride Puppy," "Uncle Bobby’s Wedding" and "Born Ready" are taught in elementary classrooms. The court's decision could reshape how schools nationwide balance inclusion with parental consent. "One principle is absolutely clear and that is no school at any age level, no matter what curricular material it's using, should indoctrinate students. The purpose of schools is to educate not indoctrinate," Strossen says.
