But ultimately, he tells "Elizabeth Vargas Reports," the arrangement will keep Kohberger behind bars for the rest of his life, whereas a potential jury conviction and death sentence could have been appealed for years. “On balance, this is the best result, even for those families, though they may not currently know it,” said Leroy, who noted that a statement reportedly written by Kohberger will surface publicly.
