23:58Now PlayingThis week our "Missing" series looks at the case of Margaret "Elaine" McKinley, a 79-year-old who vanished on a walking trail in California a year ago. Her longtime partner said despite a recent Alzheimer's diagnosis, Elaine lived a full active life. The two would hike and dance multiple times a week, with friends describing Elaine as quick and agile. But on what was supposed to be a normal hike to celebrate a friend's birthday — the unthinkable happened. Her partner and friend said Elaine ran ahead of the group close to a picnic area, but when the two arrived, Elaine was nowhere to be seen. Within hours, a massive search operation was underway. Crews using dogs, horses, drones and thermal planes searched through the wooded area.
Nearly a year later, there's still no sign of Elaine or what happened to her. This week, Newsnation's Marni Hughes looks into Elaine's disappearance, and speaks with the executive director of the Fowler O'Sullivan Foundation, a group that works to help families of missing hikers.
