3:54Now PlayingFire officials announced hundreds of firefighters are battling the Sandy Fire in California’s Simi Valley and making significant progress.
Fire officials told NewsNation local affiliate KTLA that as of 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, 1,386 acres of land had been scorched by the brush fire, which was 5% contained. The fire was first reported just after 10 a.m. Monday and prompted mass evacuations.
Evacuation warnings and orders were still in effect Tuesday for about 28,000 people as firefighters continued working on containment.
