Miss Universe 2025 is mired in serious controversy. Judge Omar Harfouch resigned before the final, calling Fátima Bosch of Mexico a “fake winner.” He alleges there was a “secret” jury that pre-selected the Top 30, and even suggests ties between Bosch’s family and Miss Universe’s leadership.
On top of that, several contestants walked out in solidarity with Bosch after she was publicly berated by a pageant executive drama that’s calling into question how transparent things really were.
What’s fueling the fire even more is that many fans think other contestants were more deserving. For example:
Praveenar Singh (Thailand) was the 1st runner-up, and was considered a top contender.
Stephany Abasali (Venezuela) also landed in the top ranks; she’s been praised for her poise and eloquence.
Ahtisa Manalo (Philippines) and Olivia Yacé (Côte d’Ivoire) also made the top 5, and many in the pageant community felt they could’ve taken the crown.
When you combine the judge resignations, allegations of rigging, and public backlash plus the belief that “real winners” were overlooked it’s hard not to feel like Miss Universe is in a downward spiral. Feels like this year more than ever, what’s supposed to be a celebration of empowerment is being clouded by business, politics, and favoritism.
