Why Candace Owens Is Asking a Delaware Court to Dismiss the Macron Defamation Lawsuit

In July 2025, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron filed a 22-count defamation lawsuit in Delaware against Candace Owens, accusing her of repeatedly spreading false claims — including that Brigitte was born male, that the couple are blood relatives, and that they are part of a larger CIA-linked conspiracy.

Owens responded by filing a 43-page motion to dismiss (on September 12, 2025), arguing primarily that the court in Delaware lacks proper jurisdiction over the dispute.

Her lawyers assert that the lawsuit — filed where one of her businesses is incorporated — is a form of “libel tourism,” designed to exploit a legal forum far removed from the actual locus of events.

They contend that if the case has any legitimacy, it should instead proceed in a jurisdiction with a more direct connection to the alleged defamation — namely France (where the allegedly false statements originated and where the harmed parties reside) or Tennessee (where Owens lives and records her.

Finally, Owens argues that bringing the lawsuit in Delaware circumvents important procedural safeguards — including the statute-of-limitations rules in France, where similar defamation claims would be subject to stricter time limits.

Thus, according to Owens’ motion, the lawsuit should be dismissed on grounds of improper venue/jurisdiction and forum non conveniens.
