People like Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee declared it a hate crime committed by a white man before the relevant facts were out, and the media ran with the story as a possible hate crime.
Turns out, it was a gang related shooting gone wrong committed by a black man.
This is an example of people jumping the gun to foster a narrative of division, which happens too much on all sides.
