Welcome to the Not A Grayman Podcast, where your host, RK Gray, speaks with her unique network of professionals who have stepped out of the shadows and are NOT "Graymen". Among them is today's guest, John Kiriakou. John is the former chief of counterterrorism operations in Pakistan, a former CIA intelligence officer, former senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, former counterterrorism consultant, author, and journalist. He was responsible for the 2002 capture of a high-value target - "Abu Zubaydah" - in Pakistan. In 2007, John became a whistleblower after alleging that the CIA used enhanced interrogation techniques. He told ABC News that "the CIA tortured prisoners, that torture was official U.S. government policy, and that the policy had been approved by then-President George W. Bush." He was later indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act, and consequently sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.
