2:26Now PlayingIn the 1930s Swiss scientist Albert Hofmann accidentally discovered LSD. Years later, it was the most studied psychoactive drug in history, but it was also a leading cause of young people ending up in the emergency room. Concern that psychedelics could cause serious harm led Congress to ban it in 1971. Now, researchers are beginning to study LSD as a possible treatment for cluster headaches and end-of-life depression. And it's not just LSD -- other psychoactive drugs like psilocybin and MDMA are being studied for their potential use in medicine.
