YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThis footage, shared by NASA in September 2022, shows the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) which purposefully impacted an asteroid in order to move it. It was the first mission in the world to trial technology that would protect Earth from potential asteroid collisions.
Dimorphos, the massive asteroid that the NASA deliberately crashed a spacecraft into in this clip, is one of five asteroids due to pass by Earth over the weekend, the space agency said.
NASA’s Asteroid Watch dashboard, which tracks asteroids and comets that will make relatively close approaches to Earth, lists five asteroids that are expected to approach between June 23 and 25. One is the size of a bus, three are comparable in size to planes, and the largest, Dimorphos, is the size of a stadium. #shorts
