as posted by the channel

The National Hurricane Center says the eye of Hurricane Idalia has come ashore near Keaton Beach, Fla.

At initial landfall Idalia had sustained winds of 125 mph — a powerful Category 3 "major hurricane."

Hurricane historian Phil Klotzbach says Idalia is tied with the Cedar Key Hurricane of 1896 as the strongest storms to ever hit that area.

Overnight, swells from Idalia had roiled the Gulf of Mexico. A buoy offshore from St. Peterbsburg, Florida, reported a wave height of nearly 34 feet.

As it continues inland, Idalia poses danger to swaths of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
