The northeastern U.S. is dealing with a record number of wildfires. Roughly half the northeast is in a drought, and the rest of the region is unusually dry. Fire departments are struggling to cope with a situation experts say may become the "new normal."

In recent weeks, significant wild fires have been reported in New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut. New York City officials issued the first drought warning in over 20 years.
