as posted by the channel

January 6 defendants Gregory Purdy, Edward Jacob Lang and Robert Turner celebrate their release with friends and well-wishers outside the DC Central Detention Facility where they were incarcerated for the 2021 attack on the Capitol, in Washington, D.C.

Hour after being sworn in as president, Donald Trump granted clemency to every defendant accused of committing crimes on Jan. 6, including those convicted of brutal assaults on police officers. More than 1,500 people who had been charged in connection with the attack, received a "full, complete and unconditional pardon."

Trump's written proclamation announcing his decision stated that he was ending a "grave national injustice that has been perpetrated upon the American people over the last four years and begins a process of national reconciliation."

Jan. 6 defendants and their families celebrated Trump's actions. Police officers who were injured by the rioters on Jan. 6 condemned Trump's action as a "betrayal."
