as posted by the channelLondon Zoo announced on Tuesday, April 22, that endangered siheks, which had recently been returned to the wild on a Pacific Island, had laid eggs for the first time in almost 40 years.
The nine young siheks, also known as Guam kingfishers, had been hand-reared by zookeepers and returned to the wild at The Nature Conservancy’s Palmyra Atoll preserve.
London Zoo said that this event marked the first time the species had bred in the wild since their extinction from their native island of Guam in the 1980s.
