as posted by the channelThe State Department has confirmed that it plans to phase out by March HIV/AIDS funding to South Africa, where roughly 8 million people are living with the virus.
The State Department said it is ending the HIV/AIDS funding because of South Africa’s failure to make progress on policy requests by the Trump administration. It singled out what it sees as South Africa’s prejudice against white South Africans. The State Department said it had warned South Africa multiple times and the country is “more than capable of supporting it is own health programs.”
In 2024, the U.S. gave more than $450 million to South Africa for HIV/AIDS work. South Africa’s Ministry of Health did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
