Acclaimed TV showrunner and writer, Mara Brock Akil says her debut novel, “The Revelation of Dionne Daphne," is an invitation to talk about difficult things.

In an interview with host Michel Martin, Brock Akil spoke of shedding the “lid of shame,” in order to move forward from deep trauma such as sexual assault. “When you let all of that go, you get so much back,” she said.
