President Trump signed an executive order Thursday directing the federal government to rename Lake Ontario, which sits between New York and Canada and is the smallest of the great lakes, to “Lake America.”
He made a similar move last year renaming the Gulf of Mexico.
The change comes after trade talks between Canada and the U.S. broke down and Trump announced that he would impose a 50% tariff on some Canadian goods, escalating a trade war with the Unites States’ longtime ally. Canada issued countertariffs in response.
