1:11:22Now PlayingThis lecture by Pastor Joel Webbon took place at the Truth Matters Conference hosted by Faithful Stones Church of Buffalo, NY on August 20.
When Israel finally came into the land that God had promised to them, pretending pity, they spared the wicked inhabitants whom the Lord commanded them to destroy. Israel promised themselves that they would never join in any of these nations’ wicked practices, but sins of omission make way for sins of commission. And so Israel began to mingle with these pagan nations, yet they thought they would never join them in their pagan worship. Sadly, little by little, Israel joined these nations in their idolatry also. And when Israel joined with them in their idolatrous services which appeared to be the least harmful, they never thought that they would be guilty of that barbarous idolatry of sacrificing their own children to false gods; but at last, they came to that as well. And the final state of Israel was slavery. The very nations they pitied became their oppressors. In the beginning, Israel had the upper hand, but pity led to compromise, compromise led to idolatry, and idolatry led to slavery. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how pity destroys a nation (Psalm 106:34-48).
