1:06:00Now PlayingIt is imperative that we recognize that these pagan kings, Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes, did not support the people of God and the rebuilding of the temple because Israel held some populist position of political power in Babylon. Israel was a minority in Babylon, and not even all of Israel was willing to leave Babylon to go back ad rebuild Jerusalem. This is not bottom-up revival. Make no mistake, this is revival. But it is clearly top-down revival. God did not use a super-majority of faithful Israelites to convert the king. Instead, God used one unconverted king to legislate morality (in both tables of the law – that which pertained to love for neighbor, as well as that which pertained to proper worship of God). And in the righteous legislation of morality, the law the served as “a tutor” for Israel, igniting their previously cold and indifferent hearts to proper zeal for God. And this revival among the Israelites did not remain with them, but quickly spread among the heathens also.
