1:00Now PlayingWe are now going into the LAST MONTH of the legislative year!! Here is what the New York Senate was up to this week....
The Senate passed a package of nine bills that will add protections for those with disabilities. These bills include making sure that electronic information is still accessible for the blind, a bill that will protect the cash accounts of those with disabilities living in a facility, and that public tv’s include closed captioning.
These bills also would allow for someone with disabilities to terminate their lease without being financially liable if they need to move into housing that better suits their needs and makes sure that those with disabilities and veterans with PTSD be allowed to have a therapy animal in their home.
And 10 percent of the elevators in the nation are right here in New York, but before now there were no training requirements for people that work on them.
So the Senate passed a bill that would require people who build, repair and inspect elevators to be licensed.
