Totaling just 27 kilometers, Jordan's coastline is one of the world's smallest, but its waters are unique in the ocean, and little-explored.

In May of 2022 OceanX partnered with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on a research mission to explore Jordan's territorial waters in the Gulf of Aqaba. Over 45 researchers from 9 universities participated in the multi-disciplinary expedition in July of 2022.

This first-of-its-kind expedition allowed Jordanian scientists to explore these unique, biodiverse waters as never before. With the deep-sea capabilities of OceanXplorer, Jordanian scientists were able to explore the deep sea habitats of the Gulf of Aqaba for the first time.
