as posted by the channelThe United Arab Emirates is most often associated with sweeping desert landscapes and the glittering skyline of Dubai. But its richest habitats are in the sea, in the Arabian/Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Here, scientists are working to understand and protect the seventeen species of whales and dolphins who live here, including endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphins, elusive Bryde's whales, and the rare Arabian Sea humpback whale.
Dr. Ada Natoli and her team from Zayed University team up with scientists from Fujairah Marine Research Center aboard OceanXplorer to study the whales and dolphins living far from shore. This is the first dedicated scientific survey of its kind in UAE waters.
Through marine surveys and genetic research, they're building the first comprehensive picture of these animals' lives in some of the most human-stressed waters in the world, providing crucial data for their conservation.
