McCabe at a Dec. 15, 2015 Capitol Hill briefing that the American government has an obligation to protect the Iranian exiles in Iraq and now held at Camp Liberty. The exiles gave up their weapons in 2004 upon the promise from the U.S. Army that they would be protected. Iranians have attacked the exiles seven times at the camp, including an Oct. 29, 2015 rocket attack that left seven dead.
