Consumer sentiment — essentially how Americans feel about their finances and the broader economy — plunged in November, falling close to historic lows and far below where it stood last year. For many middle-class families juggling bills, retirement savings, and mounting credit-card debt, the idea of buying a home feels out of reach. Yet while everyday Americans struggle with affordability, social media seems to push foreign drama that has little to do with real life around U.S. dinner tables.

That disconnect may explain why many Republican voters stayed home this month, suggesting the political message isn't addressing what people actually care about. Polls consistently show voters want to know what's being done to pull the country out of the deep affordability crisis that took root under the last administration.

To dig deeper into the latest confidence numbers and any efforts underway to improve them, David Stryzewski, CEO of Sound Planning Group joins Alicia Summers.
