4:49Now PlayingA Texas mother is sharing her story after a devastating pond accident claimed the lives of her three young sons.
According to Cheynne Hangaman, her six-year-old son fell into a freezing pond near a rural Texas community close to the Oklahoma border. His eight- and nine-year-old brothers jumped in to try to save him. Hang says she rushed to the pond and entered the icy water in a desperate attempt to rescue her children, but was unable to reach them.
A nearby high school coach helped pull Hang from the pond as first responders arrived on scene. The two older boys were transported to a hospital, where they later died. The body of the youngest child was recovered following an extensive search.
The tragedy comes amid severe winter weather impacting parts of Texas, with more than 40 storm-related deaths reported statewide. A GoFundMe has been established to help support the family.
