as posted by the channelA routine investigation turned into a violent ambush in Deltona. According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Jose Rivera was shot twice after suspect Luis Diaz Polanco allegedly opened fire during an assault and battery investigation. Authorities say the suspect answered the door holding a box, appeared shocked, then suddenly slammed the door shut. Moments later, he allegedly emerged armed and engaged deputies in a gunfight. Rivera was struck in the leg and shoulder, one bullet ricocheting off his body camera. Investigators say the suspect later admitted he only stopped shooting because he ran out of ammunition, claiming he otherwise would have been forced to kill the deputies.
