Speaking from the White House, Rubio called Iran’s actions, targeting commercial vessels and restricting international waters, “outrageous” and “illegal.” The proposal urges Iran to disclose mine locations, cooperate in removal efforts, and allow humanitarian aid through the region.
Backed by Gulf partners, the resolution will be brought before the United Nations Security Council as the U.S. continues operations to defend freedom of navigation. Rubio also warned Iran faces mounting economic pressure and accused the regime of continuing its pursuit of nuclear capabilities.
U.S. officials say military action remains defensive, but any further Iranian aggression will be met with force.
