U.S. Authorities Take Down Transnational “Sex Chem” Drug Network in Major Bust

Federal authorities have dismantled a major international drug trafficking network spanning South Korea, the United States, and multiple major cities including Washington, D.C., California, and New York. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced charges against 11 defendants tied to an operation that allegedly imported large quantities of GBL—a chemical that converts into the dangerous “date rape” drug GHB—along with high-purity methamphetamine distributed nationwide through postal services and encrypted communications.

Investigators say the organization operated on a sophisticated level, with leadership and coordination stretching overseas, including a massive seizure of GBL in South Korea. U.S. officials also recovered drugs, firearms, financial records, and cash as part of the takedown.

Authorities described the drugs as part of a dangerous “sex chem” cocktail marketed in club scenes and linked to severe public health risks. Officials credited coordinated federal efforts under Homeland Security Task Force initiatives for helping bring down the network.

All defendants face serious federal charges, with potential penalties ranging from 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
