2:36Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump signed a new proclamation aimed at boosting the U.S. fishing industry and lowering seafood prices for American consumers.
The order reopens commercial fishing access to areas of the western Pacific Ocean that had been restricted under the Obama administration, including waters around Hawaii, the Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. The administration says the move will generate millions in new economic activity, increase domestic seafood production, and support coastal communities and small fisheries.
During the White House event, Trump also highlighted broader economic and foreign policy developments, including renewed optimism in negotiations with Iran. The president suggested that a memorandum of understanding could be signed as soon as this weekend, emphasizing that any agreement would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
