3:22Now PlayingAttorney General Todd Blanche details an alleged marriage fraud scheme in which foreign nationals, primarily from China, allegedly paid up to $100,000 to facilitators to arrange sham marriages with U.S. citizens in order to obtain green cards.
Blanche says U.S. citizens were allegedly paid as much as $30,000 to participate, while facilitators, recruiters, attorneys, tax preparers and marriage officiants allegedly helped create fraudulent evidence and applications to deceive U.S. immigration officials.
The alleged scheme included staged family photographs, joint bank and mobile phone accounts, fraudulent green card applications and other efforts to make sham marriages appear legitimate.
Blanche says the charges demonstrate the lengths individuals will go to exploit the U.S. immigration system.
