There’s no doubt the world of video games has expanded – drastically – over the past decade. Digital games now offer highly complex virtual landscapes that bend reality and fantasy. They are used in classrooms around the country, in various training centers, and of course on millions of smartphones. But do these games have the power to shape our minds – and our society – for the better? Or is the submersion into video games and alternate realities promulgating societal ills like anti-social behavior?

Tonight we put these points to the test, debating the motion:

Video Games Will Make Us Smarter

Arguing for the motion: Daphne Bavelier, professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at University of Geneva, and Asi Burak, chairman at Games for Change & CEO of Power Play. Against them, Elias Aboujaoude, director at Stanford University OCD and Impulse Control Disorders Clinics, joins Walter R. Boot, Director at Florida State University Attention and Training Lab.
